Cristina de Middel was invited by 7L, the library founded by Karl Lagerfeld in 1999, to make a creative piece inspired by the hundreds of thousands of books in the library. The result is an image, and an accompanying animated artwork, that form the symbolic phrase: “J’ai Aimé Ma Vie Entre Hommes Tristes” (I have loved my life among sad men). The work, entirely created within the walls of the library, was revealed through a large-scale installation in the same space.
