In October 2024, Magnum Photos was awarded the PRINCESS OF ASTURIAS AWARD FOR CONCORDIA 2024. The jury for the award, convened by the Princess of Asturias Foundation, was composed of nearly 40 members.

The jury praised the agency as “an example of press freedom and risk-taking,” recognizing its contribution to “raising human awareness.” To celebrate this prestigious and significant award for the agency, Magnum and the Princess of Asturias Foundation teamed up to create a never-before-seen exhibition and a series of educational activities.

The Exhibition

The exhibition "Spain x Magnum," curated by Magnum's Spanish photographer and president Cristina De Middel, goes beyond a retrospective view of Spain. It showcases 112 images by 46 Magnum photographers, from Robert Capa to Lua Ribeira, capturing key moments in Spain's history and press evolution. Iconic works range from Capa's “fallen soldier” to Martin Parr's playful beach scenes in Benidorm.

Premiered in October 2024 in Oviedo, it was created with the Princess of Asturias Foundation. The non-linear display combines themes like landscapes, food, surrealism, and festivals, using diverse formats like tables, canvases, and panels to highlight each photographer's unique perspective.

Individual and group talks led by Magnum photographers for local students, aspiring photographers and visitors. A way to further deepen the project and involve the community in the exhibition.
