The Municipality of Sirmione commissioned Cristina de Middel to create a project to celebrate the centenary of the birth of Maria Callas. The Spanish artist's creative journey has led to 'Legato and Staccato', a reflection on the heroine's archetype: through the reinterpretation of five of the operas in which the 'Divina' starred - Medea, Madama Butterfly, La Traviata, Norma, Tosca - de Middel has created five video pieces to pay tribute to the heroines, the ones in legends and the ones on stage and in real life. With its surreal charm Sirmione has become the prestigious stage for the visual interpretation of our universal storytelling about the heroine, never symbol of strength and victory but always of tragedy, betrayal and suffering.
